I am excited to announce my success at the Clothes Show London Young Accessory Designer of the Year Competition 2010 in partnership with the Fashion and Textile Museum.
I was inspired by the work of Ricardo Legorreta, the Mexican architect behind the bold and colourful building of the Fashion and Textile Museum. After researching his work, I was especially interested in the design features of the Hotel Camino Real in Mexico including the structural pink metal folded screen by the hotel pool. Initially, I experimented with folding and cutting coloured paper to develop my ideas further.
I went on to experiment with techniques on my Fine gauge Industrial knitting machine in cotton yarn, bright Neon Lurex and Lycra to create pleated effects similar to those of the folded structure of the pool screen.
The entries were judged by FTM’s Commercial Director, Alison Lewy and Managing Director of Clothes Show London, Gavin Brown.
