I am excited to announce myself as the winner of the Clothes Show London Young Accessory Designer of the Year Competition in partnership with the Fashion and Textile Museum.
I was at the Clothes Show London from the 25th – 27th of June to showcase my winning brightly coloured, knitted and pleated scarf which is soon to be on sale at the Fashion and Textile Museum shop.
I was inspired by the work of Ricardo Legorreta, the Mexican architect behind the bold and colourful building of the Fashion and Textile Museum. After undertaking more research into his work, I was especially interested in the design features of the Hotel Camino Real in Mexico and in particular the structural form of a pink metal folded screen by the hotel pool. Initially, I experimented with folding and cutting coloured paper to develop my ideas further.
I then went on to experiment with pleated effects created by transferring knitted stitched on my Fine gauge Industrial knitting machine in cotton yarn, bright Neon Lurex and Lycra. This technique creates effects that reflect the sculptural, folded structure of the pool screen perfectly.
The entries were be judged by FTM’s Commercial Director, Alison Lewy and Managing Director of Clothes Show London, Gavin Brown.
Hey!
Congratulations! I really love that scarf.
